Welcome!

When we told people we were packing up our suburban life near Baton Rouge, Louisiana and moving to Woodville, Mississippi, we were met with blank stares, puzzled looks and, eventually, the question “Why?'“ This blog documents our adventures and answers to that “Why” each day we spend in our rural community.

Today I was privileged to finally sit and talk for hours (literally!) with Kimberly Smith, WCHS alumni who now lives in Indianapolis with her husband and three children. The author and owner of Peppermint Publishing, LLC just released her fourth book, “LuLu For The Win,” a vibrantly illustrated children’s book about overcoming fear. She shared with me how each of her children inspire her books and play large roles in developing the stories and signing off on the illustrations. She considers them partners in her projects. “These books are for them, and I want them to be part of the process.”

Kimberly and I talked about what it was like growing up in Woodville, how the loss of her mother to cancer two years ago has affected her, and when we can expect her next book (next Spring!). She is such an authentic, passionate woman, and I hope to line up a reading event for the community the next time she’s in town.

Look for a link to her books in the comments. She’s offering 20% off orders 11/30-12/2. Support this small business!
