Welcome!

When we told people we were packing up our suburban life near Baton Rouge, Louisiana and moving to Woodville, Mississippi, we were met with blank stares, puzzled looks and, eventually, the question “Why?'“ This blog documents our adventures and answers to that “Why” each day we spend in our rural community.

Kindness Rocks

Kindness Rocks

The COVID pandemic has hit our community especially hard, causing discouragement, fear, and isolation from others—the very opposite of what our community loves the most. In lieu of gathering with others, citizens have been taking advantage of the better weather, getting out and about for fresh air and exercise—and finding unexpected treasures along the way.

Local young adult, Cane Lanehart, was out for a run with his dog when he found two kindness rocks with the words “Believe” and “Hope” painted on them. He wrote in a Facebook post:

Found some little reminders on my fun this afternoon. This is Why Woodville.

Kindness rocks have swept the world through the years with their artists leaving encouraging messages in some of the most ordinary places for others to find.

No one is sure where the idea originated or how much of the world participates in the activity, but one thing is certain: Woodville has a kindness rock creator who is using his or her time and talents to bring light and joy to our community just when we need it most.

The Orchard Cafe owner Terral McDonald literally found that “JOY” on the window ledge of his restaurant one day.

I found this little rock on my cafe window. Reminds me of Psalm 30:5….It gave me hope. That after the storm is over Joy will come. Thank you whoever thought about us @ the orchard cafe."

And LeReginald Jones, a local pastor, wrote the following after finding a brightly colored surprise that read “NEVER Give Up!”

I was walking yesterday, enjoying the beautiful weather and quiet moments amid this global pandemic called COVID-19. I noticed this little rock, just as I was praying and consulting God about somethings. I stopped, picked it up and immediately my eyes filled with tears and heart filled with much comfort that God while I was praying God had sent me an answer. That answer was NOT TO GIVE UP as it said so clearly on this little rock.

His post also asked of the artist/creator: “Whoever is placing these rocks around town, don’t stop. You never know who’ll see them and how God can speak even through a rock.”

This is Why Woodville?
