Welcome!

When we told people we were packing up our suburban life near Baton Rouge, Louisiana and moving to Woodville, Mississippi, we were met with blank stares, puzzled looks and, eventually, the question “Why?'“ This blog documents our adventures and answers to that “Why” each day we spend in our rural community.

Why Woodville? This beautiful lady is the owner of Opposite Ends on Main Street. Ramona welcomed Mike and me to the community even before we moved here full time by inviting us to worship with her at her church, giving us recommendations for services in the area, insisting that we borrow her extra space heater to try out, and just being a kind, warm friend.

Ramona bought and renovated the old Planter’s Hardware Store (she even gave us a tour and told us some history and neat facts about the place!) to create her gift shop and floral business, but she has kept the Planter’s name on the building to keep the history alive! Until today, she even used stacks of old “Planter’s Hardware” invoices she found in the storage area. This photo captures Ramona writing on the last of these invoices as I made a purchase. Did I feel a little special? Well, of course!

Please visit Opposite Ends if you’re ever passing through or just want to get out and patronize a small business. Ramona’s shop has all kinds of beautiful decor, delectable edibles, and wonderfully scented candles. And you’ll leave feeling like you’ve known her all your life.
