Welcome!

When we told people we were packing up our suburban life near Baton Rouge, Louisiana and moving to Woodville, Mississippi, we were met with blank stares, puzzled looks and, eventually, the question “Why?'“ This blog documents our adventures and answers to that “Why” each day we spend in our rural community.

M&M Hot Tamales

M&M Hot Tamales

We finally stopped by M&M Hot Tamales last night to see what all the fuss was about. Ms. Jessie said they’ve been serving tamales for about 15 years in their little spot across the street from the Post Office.

We also learned that Ms. Jessie is our neighbor. When she drove past our house on her way home, she called to the porch where we were sitting, “Were they a little bit of Mexican and a whole lot of soul?” I called back, “That and 100% delicious!”

Seriously, do yourself a favor this week—grab some cash from the ATM and have some tamales for dinner. And tell Ms. Jessie you saw her smile on Why Woodville’s page.
