Welcome!

When we told people we were packing up our suburban life near Baton Rouge, Louisiana and moving to Woodville, Mississippi, we were met with blank stares, puzzled looks and, eventually, the question “Why?'“ This blog documents our adventures and answers to that “Why” each day we spend in our rural community.

BEYOND WOODVILLE

Occasionally I post local finds that aren’t necessarily in Woodville but are worth mentioning if they are within a short driving distance. When small towns promote each other, we all win!

Last night after returning to our accommodations in St. Francisville after a wonderful dinner, I saw that this cute shop across the street was still open. I walked over and was immediately welcomed by owner Theresa Jackson and shop mascot Roscoe (didn’t get a photo, but he was more well behaved than many humans!).

I perused the selections and was impressed with the variety of scents, products, and price points. From room sprays, car fresheners, and candles to other local, handmade gift items like pillows, jewelry, and aprons, Lizzie’s offers many options for those looking for a special gift or just a pick-me-up.

Theresa’s husband pours all the candles, and they have some unique scents. They’ve even designed a fragrance called “The Ville” in honor of the quaint town as well as several manly blends in their “Black Dog Candle” line.

The best part about my visit (besides my Bayberry & Silver Oak treasure!) was chatting with Theresa and learning about her love for God. It is so encouraging to hear how God is working through other small business owners!

So if you’re in St. Francisville, please stop by Lizzie's Country Candles. Theresa would love for you to just see what they have, even if you don’t purchase anything. Ask her about creative candle opportunities, such a fundraisers for school or church organizations and unique gifts for bridal showers and party favors.

Most people miss this gem because they don’t go far enough down the street when shopping in the historic district. The shop is located on Ferdinand Street past Grace Episcopal Church as you near the Mississippi River. I encourage you to support this local business!
