Welcome!

When we told people we were packing up our suburban life near Baton Rouge, Louisiana and moving to Woodville, Mississippi, we were met with blank stares, puzzled looks and, eventually, the question “Why?'“ This blog documents our adventures and answers to that “Why” each day we spend in our rural community.

Kelvin stopped by today to say hello, and I couldn’t believe what kind of “pet” he had!

Kelvin brings his children to my Little Free Library sometimes. He speaks kind words to me as I do to him. When my husband isn’t with me, Kelvin asks how he is and tells me to be sure to say "hello" for him. Kelvin is very different from me in many ways--his faith, the color of his skin, his gender, his upbringing, his style, and his struggles; however, I make it a point to talk to him when I see him because he has something in common with me: he is human. Woodville may not be a metropolis and we may not boast of a booming economy, but it has character and kindness and a strong sense of community. I’ll take that any day.
