Welcome!

When we told people we were packing up our suburban life near Baton Rouge, Louisiana and moving to Woodville, Mississippi, we were met with blank stares, puzzled looks and, eventually, the question “Why?'“ This blog documents our adventures and answers to that “Why” each day we spend in our rural community.

Saturday, June 13, the Woodville community met an unusual visitor, a juvenile black bear that decided to hang out for a bit in a Live Oak beside Town Hall. His presence naturally caused quite a commotion with law enforcement keeping the bear’s audience at a safe distance until a Wildlife and Fisheries agent arrived. Of course, one officer provided live video of the event with entertaining commentary!

The bear finally decided fandom was not his thing and attempted to flee down the east side of First Presbyterian Church but made a quick route change when he encountered local resident Martha Jane Carter, who was out for a walk and unaware of the commotion. We’re not sure who was more surprised!

He parked it for a couple of nights in a tree behind the church and was gone by Monday morning. While we enjoyed his visit to our town, we think he’ll be more comfortable in his natural habitat.
