When we told people we were packing up our suburban life near Baton Rouge, Louisiana and moving to Woodville, Mississippi, we were met with blank stares, puzzled looks and, eventually, the question “Why?'“ This blog documents our adventures and answers to that “Why” each day we spend in our rural community.

Upcoming Event Spotlight - Christmas at Planters

The old Planters Hardware building may have new owners, but Christmas traditions begun by former owner Ramona Pace will continue! Make plans to attend the “Christmas at Planters” event on Sunday, December 1 from 12-5 pm. The Orchard Cafe will cater a lunch buffet, and Santa will make an appearance for photos.

This year the event will feature a Makers Market with handcrafted and homemade items from artisans near and far. Some booth space is still available for those who would like to participate. School Events

Wilkinson County Christian Academy (WCCA) will host their annual Fall Fest on Thursday, October 31 starting with a Trunk or Treat at 5:30 pm and culminating with a costume contest & cookoff winner announcements and a pep rally. Don’t forget to purchase tickets ($5 each) for the Fall Fest Raffle.

WCCA will host a home game on Friday, October 25 against Claiborne Academy.

Wilkinson County High School’s football game was moved to Thursday due to Friday’s forecast. WCHS defeated Port Gibson High School 36 - 0!

The Wilkinson County School District will have a State of the District Address on Monday, October 28 at 6 pm at the Wilkinson County Gym. There will be door prizes, and refreshments will be served as the WCSD stakeholders join together in the war for success.


Community Events

Mayor Keshia Stewart Ford and the Town of Woodville are asking the community to paint the town pink on Friday, October 25 in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. Be sure to use the hashtag #woodvillegoespink when posting photos showing your support.

Visit the National Breast Cancer Foundation website to learn more about early detection of breast cancer.

Woodville and Centreville Trick-or-Treating will be Thursday, October 31 from 5-7 pm. Town officials stated that the event is for children under the age of 12 and ask that parents accompany and supervise their children. Additionally, the Woodville Police Department will host a Trunk or Treat from 5-7 pm at the WPD parking lot.

Picnic in the Park - Head out to the Wilkinson County Park on Saturday, October 26 from 2-6 pm for an afternoon of food, music, and games hosted by Katie McCurley for Chancery Clerk.

First Presbyterian Church of Woodville (600 Main St.) will have their Annual Reformation Service on Sunday, October 27 at 6 pm. The Reverend Thomas Graves will be speaking.

The Orchard Cafe will be open Friday night until 7 pm and Saturday 11 am - 3 pm. Did you know The Orchard caters and hosts events? Give Terral a call today to discuss a menu and date!

Don’t forget about L&M Bakery & Deli on the Square. You can’t miss it—look for the yellow building!

Beyond Wilkinson County

The Homocitto River Festival in nearby Meadville starts at 8am on Saturday, October 26 and will include an art show, vendor booths, cook-off, trunk-or-treat, river race, 5K run, pet parade, kids games, dunking booth, great food and drinks, and live music from Marty Stuart (yes, THE Marty Stuart), Ronnie McDowell, and many local musicians.

St. Francisville will host the 16th Annual Yellow Leaf Arts Festival, Parker Park Saturday & Sunday, October 26-27 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Over 50 unique and creative artists and craftspeople will be showing and selling their wares. Activities will include “make and do” tents that will feature art activities, ukelele, drumming, and a “Plein Aire Paintout.” And you can’t have a festival with live music!

November 9 - Christmas Open House at Em + Lizzie’s Backyardery in Norwood

November 10 - Annual Rotary Chili Cook-Off in Natchez. All proceeds benefit the Natchez Children’s Services.
