Welcome!

When we told people we were packing up our suburban life near Baton Rouge, Louisiana and moving to Woodville, Mississippi, we were met with blank stares, puzzled looks and, eventually, the question “Why?'“ This blog documents our adventures and answers to that “Why” each day we spend in our rural community.

Several weeks ago I visited the Woodville Public Library and secured my library card, but today I was unsure how to login to my online account and reserve a book. I walked the block and a half to ask for assistance, and librarian LeReginald Jones not only assisted me with my account login but also searched the shelves to make sure the book I wanted was not there (it was a bit overdue by the previous borrower). Before he placed the hold for me, he said, “Let me check one more thing.” He pulled out what looked like a banker’s bag (and I wondered why the library would have a deposit that large!) and cut the zip tie securing the closure. He explained that the bags were used for interlibrary loans and the book in this bag had not yet been checked in. I think he was as amazed as I was when he withdrew the very book I wanted. But I think the book took second fiddle to the smile I received, don’t you?
